Welcome to Boston & USA

Boston’s great, and so is the US. We simply love it here. It’s convenient, it kind of has the best from everywhere. It successfully merged Burger with Fajitas with Thai Food. Wouldn’t trade it for anything, plus, it’s always just a short trainride away from almost-abroad Chinatown and Li’l Italy. And probably from Li’l Vienna, someday. Until then, let’s focus on the true American kitchen, enjoy delicious Apple Pie and Meat Loaf.

Super Creamy Buffalo Chicken Dip

January 31, 2018

Have I told you that this dip is CREEEEEEEAMY? And I don’t mean regular creamy, but super creamy. When I first stumbled upon this dip at a friend’s party in Boston a few years ago, I had never tried a dip with pulled chicken before, nor did I expect meat in a dip. In Austria, that’s not common at all. So, I loaded my tortilla chip with this bubbly, right… continue reading »

Sunflower and Pumpkin Seed Granola

December 5, 2017

It’s no secret that I am a huge granola lover. If I don’t have granola around (usually a few different batches), I kind of get the feeling that something is missing. I picked up this weird habit after excessively test-baking granola for my food column for the Viennese daily I am working for.   It simply is soooo convenient to have a ready-to-eat snack within reach to satisfy cravings. Usually,… continue reading »

Grain Salad with Kale, Plums and a Crunchy Topping

October 8, 2017

This grain salad basically consists of 3 ingredients: barley, kale, and plums. It’s ready in 5 minutes but still, it is the perfect salad for a little freestyle-cooking in your kitchen. In case you don’t have any leftover barley in the fridge but bulgur or rice: Go ahead and substitute. Any cooked grain works well here. Couscous, millet, barley, bulgur, rice … you name it. You are not the biggest… continue reading »

Insanely Purple Smoothie

September 25, 2017

Apparently, summer is back in Boston. It’s the end of September and currently it’s 85 degrees °F (29°C) outside. Yay! I am one of these people who deny that fall is on its way because you know what’s coming next. Winter boots and big heavy jackets. So no, no, no. I am definitely a summer person, with late summer being my favorite season. The nights are nice and chilly already… continue reading »

Quick Zucchini Pickles

August 29, 2017

What to do with all of those zucchini? Right now, a lot of people who are lucky enough to call a garden their own, are asking themselves this question. Late summer is zucchini time. And as you might know, zucchinis can turn out quite large. A week ago, I visited my family in Austria. My mom would harvest one large zucchini almost every day from our garden, asking herself the… continue reading »

Mango Pineapple Smoothie Bowl

June 13, 2017

Today, we hit a new record. The thermometer shows 95°F (35°C) degrees in the apartment! Since we live in an apartment directly below the roof and without AC, the current heat wave here in Boston converts our place into a sauna. The good thing is: I can do hot yoga for free now ;-) For cooling down somehow, I am feeding myself with these delicious pastel yellow smoothie bowls. They… continue reading »

Green Spring Tacos with Curried Chickpeas

June 6, 2017

These tacos are simply amazing. They are not only colorful and delicious but also come together in a few minutes.   Have I ever mentioned that tacos are my favorite way of using up any leftovers from the fridge? You can any ingredients if you don’t have the mentioned ones hand. No radishes? Simply use carrots, microgreens or any other crunchy veggies. No chickpeas? Use beans of any kind: red,… continue reading »

Strawberry Banana Smoothie

May 27, 2017

It’s no surprise that I am a huge fan of strawberry smoothies. Honestly, who isn’t. This strawberry banana smoothie my go-to recipe if I am craving something sweet but don’t want to go down the chocolate route.   This naturally sweet 3-ingredient strawberry banana smoothie is simply amazing. It’s so tasty, fruity, creamy, and sweet that you wouldn’t believe it’s sugar-free. Strawberry Banana Smoothie was last modified: January 21st, 2019… continue reading »

Salmon Poke Bowl

May 19, 2017

I’ve never been a fan of fish for most of my life. As a child, when my siblings enjoyed their fish sticks, the smell of it deterred me. Therefore, I decided back then that I don’t like fish and that I won’t eat it any more. By the way, other than that, I wasn’t a picky person at all.   A couple of years ago, just before we moved to… continue reading »

Puffy and Fluffy Dutch Baby

April 25, 2017

It’s funny that a Dutch Baby is also known as German pancake. I am somewhat embarrassed to admit that I’ve never heard of a Dutch Baby before I moved to the US. And usually, Austrians know what’s going on in Germany ;-) So this dish was a great discovery. It’s kind of foodie-heaven for me. If you get to know me a little, you know my preference for sweet egg-flour-milk… continue reading »

Chewy Fudgy Brownies

April 18, 2017

This one bowl brownie recipe yields chewy, fudgy brownies with a moist center and a crispy crust. I simply love their moist chew and the fact that they are not too dense. The baking time influences the consistency of these brownies tremendously, so please insert the cake tester (skewer, toothpick) rather too often than pulling dry brownies out of the oven. You will get the best results if the brownies… continue reading »

Basic chia pudding with coconut milk

March 14, 2017

This is my basic recipe for chia pudding. I typically use coconut milk for chia puddings – I like its taste and color – but feel free to substitute with any other plant-based milk like soy or almond milk. The color may vary slightly. Smoothies and fruit juices taste great as well, when used instead of milk. I use 5 tablespoons of liquid for every tablespoon of chia seeds as a… continue reading »
